Are You Applying Strip Lashes the Right Way?

Are You Applying Strip Lashes the Right Way?

Some say strip lashes are tricky. Others swear they’re a game-changer. So what’s the truth? Could it be that they’re not difficult to use—but that we’ve just been using them wrong?

We asked professional makeup artists for their top tips—and here’s what they shared to help you master your strip lash game once and for all!

1. Prep Your Eyes (The Right Way!)

Before anything else, make sure your eye area is clean. This step is often overlooked but is key to longer wear. While it’s best to complete your eye makeup before applying strip lashes, avoid applying mascara beforehand—mascara can interfere with the glue’s hold and make your false lashes fall off more easily. Instead, apply mascara after your lashes are in place to blend everything seamlessly.

Even more important—curl your natural lashes before application. Giving your lashes a nice upward lift helps your falsies sit better and adhere more securely. It also helps them blend naturally with your natural lashes, creating a smooth, seamless look without obvious layering.

This step not only improves comfort but also enhances hold and the overall finish—a total must-do for a flawless lash look!

2. Trim to Fit—Size Matters!

When you open that gorgeous new pair of lashes, don’t rush to apply them just yet. Most lashes come in standard sizes, and may be too long for your unique eye shape. Always measure the lash band against your lash line first. If it’s too wide, trim until it fits just right.

Tip: The lash band should start about 0.5 cm away from your inner corner. Lash bands that are too long can poke your eyes, lift at the edges, or fall off prematurely.

3. Soften the Band Before You Wear

Brand-new lashes often have a stiff band. After trimming them to size, wrap the lash around your finger for a minute or so to soften the band and create a natural curve. This makes it easier to apply and helps it hug your lash line better. Just be gentle—don’t crimp or damage the lashes.

4. Don’t Overdo the Glue

More glue doesn’t mean a better hold—in fact, too much glue can get messy, take longer to dry, or even irritate your eyes. The trick is to apply a thin, even layer of glue along the lash band, then wait 10-15 seconds until the glue becomes tacky (it should turn from white to clear). That’s the perfect moment to apply!

5. Removing Your Lashes—Do It Gently

Taking off your lashes is just as important as putting them on. Use a lash remover or oil-based cleanser and apply it along the lash line, especially where your falsies meet your natural lashes. Let it sit for a few seconds, then gently peel from the outer corner.

Feeling any tug or discomfort? Stop—add more remover and wait. Never force it, or you could damage your skin or the lash strip, making them harder to reuse.

With these expert tips, wearing strip lashes can be effortless—and stunning! Just a little care can go a long way in creating a bold, natural lash look that completes your makeup and boosts your confidence.

Still have unused strip lashes lying around? Now’s the time to try again!
