How to Choose the Right Lashes for Beginners?

Have you been put off by the high costs of salon lash extensions? Or maybe, as a busy mom, you just can’t spare a few hours lying on a beauty chair? Thankfully, DIY lash extensions are here, allowing everyone to enjoy the beauty of fabulous lashes from the comfort of home!

If you're new to lashes, this Beginner’s Guide to Choosing the Right Lashes is just what you need!

1. Choose Thin-band Cluster Lashes

For beginners, Thin-band cluster lashes are highly recommended. Typically, only 4–5 clusters are needed to cover an entire eye, making application quick and easy. They’re also easier to adjust and more forgiving for first-timers.

Narrower clusters (especially single fibers) are better suited for experienced users, as they allow more creative customization for different makeup styles.

Alternatively, you can try strip lashes, which are simpler and don’t require designing a lash map. However, strip lashes may need trimming to fit the length of your eye.

2. Lash Glue Matters

The type of lash glue you use determines how long your lashes will stay on:

Cluster Lash Glue: Usually lasts up to a week, perfect for those who want a longer-lasting effect.

Strip Lash Glue: Typically designed for 24-hour wear, great for day-to-night looks.

Self-Adhesive Lashes: Quick and easy to apply, ideal for those who want to save time. And it can last one or two days.

Magnetic Lashes: A fantastic option for those with sensitive skin, as they avoid the need for glue and can last all day when applied correctly.

For one-day events or outings, you can choose strip lashes, self-adhesive lashes, or magnetic lashes for convenience and flexibility.

3. Application Skills Are Key

The way you apply lashes significantly impacts their comfort and longevity. Here’s how to get it right:

Clean Your Eyes: Ensure your lashes are clean before application. Avoid using mascara beforehand.

Cluster Lashes:

Apply the lashes to the underside of your natural lashes. Apply the glue to the band of the clusters and your natural lashes, not your eyelids.

Use a small amount of glue, wait 30 seconds until it gets tacky, and then gently attach the clusters. You should use the seal to make them last longer.

Strip Lashes: Apply glue to the lash band and stick it to the top of your natural lashes, not the skin.

Magnetic Lashes: Practice is essential to position them correctly for a secure fit.

💡 Tip: Don’t place lashes too close to your waterline, as it may cause discomfort. But avoid positioning them too far away to maintain a natural look.

4. Start with Natural Styles

As tempting as dramatic lashes might be, we recommend starting with natural styles. These are usually thinner, more flexible, and better suited for beginners. Natural lashes are also easier to align with your eye shape and less likely to create a stark contrast with your expectations. Once you gain confidence, you can experiment with more dramatic styles for different occasions.

5. Opt for All-in-One Purchases

To get the best results, consider buying lashes and glue from the same brand, as they are often developed to work together seamlessly. Additionally, invest in essential tools like tweezers and lash remover to make the process smoother and more convenient.
